The description:
We have redisgned the War Hostel, but the core is still there. Now our focus is again on educating people about the war, but it feels more like staying in a special Art Gallery where the art is against the War and any Wars and you still get to talk to war survivors especially 01 – Zero One and listen to his perspective, on his experience and how to this day he doesn’t separate people into US and THEM and how he is fighting for peace in the world through his world famous project – The War Hostel – Sarajevo.
Every wall is decorated with anti-war art made by 01. Each night the lights go off in the entire hostel for 10 minutes and this helps you understand how we lived in complete darkness for 4 years. Talking about the war is something that people don’t like to do, but 01 has turned this negativity into something positive, an educational experience which is truly unique, where you get to sit down and talk to a true war survivor who against all odds survived and still to this day stayed true to his believes (positivity, good in people and never giving up) which is why he turned all this negativity into this unique learning experience.
We also offer special war tours on the former frontline of Sarajevo where we can take you to see what’s left of the bunkers and the frontline while sharing deep war stories.
The War Hostel as a Hostel is beautifully designed, has more than what most hostels have, beautiful single beds, large space for your personal belongings, the space under the whole bed is reserved for that, underfloor heating in the whole hostel, modern beautiful bathroom with a wash/drier, an amazing comfy common room with a fully equipped kitchen, keyless entry system. But all of this is for your comfort and safety, however, the unique elements which you cannot see anywhere else in this world is talking to 01, listening to war stories, looking at anti war art and actual war photos and newspapers from the war and the 10 minute lights out each night. And if you want a proper museum experience, our war museum is located just 1 minute away from us and it’s full of war artefacts and items.
